The PVM-740 is a new type of 7.4-inch high-resolution (960 x 540 pixel) portable monitor which incorporates an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display panel with Sony’s unique Super Top EmissionTM technology.
Thanks to the nature of the OLED display panel and Sony’s Super Top EmissionTM technology, the PVM-740 offers outstanding high-contrast images. Incorporating a 10-bit panel driver, Sony’s Super Top EmissionTM OLED display panel creates lifelike and smoother-than-ever gradation from dark to bright portions of a scene.
Also, an excellent blur-free quick response to fast motion benefits a variety of applications and scenes, e.g., sports broadcasting, monitoring of camera panning, and text scrolling.
In addition to the high-purity deep colour reproduction characteristics inherent in Sony’s Super Top EmissionTM OLED display panel, two other elements – Sony’s 10-bit panel driver and ChromaTRU technologies – work effectively to emulate the colours and gammas of CRT monitors, and to support broadcast standards (SMPTE-C, EBU, and ITU-R BT.709).
Incorporating a compact, lightweight, and robust aluminium die-cast body, the PVM-740 suits many different indoor and outdoor applications. The PVM-740 is equipped with standard interface connectors – a composite video, 3G/HD/SD-SDI, and HDMI – which accept a variety of video signal formats from PAL/NTSC up to 1080/50p and 60p.

Sony HDCAM-SR VTRs – SRW-5100/2 and SRW-5800/2
SRW-5100/2 : HDCAM-SR StudioPlayer
HDCAM SR format is Sony’s highest quality production format, delivering RGB 4:4:4 full bandwidth High Definition for unprecedented picture quality.
As HD-based programme origination has escalated for feature films, HDTV and post production, HDCAM SR has become the natural choice for the interchange and delivery of HD content due to the virtually uncompressed picture quality, 12 audio channels, exceptional reliability, double speed transfer and many other advanced features.
The success of HDCAM SR has naturally led to a requirement for a playback-only ingest VTR – the SRW-5100 Studio Player.
The SRW-5100 is equipped with almost all the same key features as the SRW-5800 apart from recording and network file transfer capabilities. The SRW-5100 does fully support880 Mbps playback supporting all SQ and HQ modes, dual channel (3D), 444 mode and X2 transfer speed to certain NLE.
A new option introduced with the SRW-5100 allows HDV output for simultaneous offline ingest to a non-linear editor via i.Link.
The SRW-5800/2 is a major update for the most flexible SR VTR available
the RGB 4:4:4 full-bandwidth HD VTRs at the top of the Sony VTR line-up – have a critical role as a master format for movies, commercial productions, and high-end TV. It is also the interchange and delivery format for most HD broadcasters, as well as the required delivery format for 3D HD programming.
Supporting all SMPTE standard 1080 and 720 formats up to 59.94P, 3G interface with 3D recording on one tape, x2 ingest to servers and network interface for DPX, TIFF and Cineon formats, SR technology increases the speed and productivity of all operations.
By adding the HKSR-58UK upgrade kit, you can update every 5800 to the new /2 version (an additional board is required to take an original 5800/0 to /1 before applying the upgrade kit. If your machine has 3G HDSDI support, it is already a /1).
The /2 version adds a lot of new functionality including double speed recording, 3D RGB recording, and MXF network file transfer. We are also introducing a new file format called SR-Lite. This operates at half the bit rate of standard SR (440 Mbps at 30P), so a data rate of 220 Mbps is realised. By using the MXF file transfer mode, a theoretical speed transfer of nearly 2x real time can be achieved over GbE. (Note: this a file format only over GbE and will never exist as a tape format).
At standard SR bit rates almost real time transfer over GbE can be achieved, and as this is the native SStP (Simple Studio Profile), that is SR MPEG-4 compressed data, you only need one quarter of your normal storage requirements together with a 4 times transfer speed increase compared to uncompressed data streams.
The /2 upgrade also adds support for 1080 50P and 60P (422) as well as RGB SQ mode (440 Mbps) as standard, so there is no need for an additional HKSR-5803HQ board. In addition, the HKSR-5804 network card can be added, also no longer needing the HQ board, so you can cost effectively add DPX and MXF transfer capability.

2011 will bring the SR Memory solid state recording options already planned as part of a strategy of continual development.Originally developed as the ultimate mastering and post-production format, HDCAM SR recording represents the apex of video recording technology. In standard configuration, the SRW-9000 is capable of top-quality 4:2:2 Y/Cb/Cr 10-bit recording at 1080/23.98P, 24P, 25P, 29.97P, 50P, 59.94P and 1080/50i and 59.94i. In addition, the SRW-9000 can record 4:2:2 720/50P and 59.94P signals, which can be used for DTV programming and transmission applications. For users who require further creative performance, a variety of option cards can be added, allowing you to benefit from full-bandwidth 1080 RGB 4:4:4 capturing, SR Motion variable frame rate capturing and recording, S-Log Gamma, and additional signal inputs and outputs. Both now and into the future, the SRW-9000 will help ignite a passion for stunning visual productions in digital cinema, commercial programs, TV dramas, and documentaries.

At NAB 2010, Sony displayed new technologies and prototype concepts that can enhance the XDCAM HD® workflow.
LAS VEGAS (NAB Booth #C11001) April 11, 2010 – Olivier Bovis, General Manager, Content Creation, Sony Professional; “Sony continues to develop powerful and unique solutions for the XDCAM HD optical family. These solutions can be an effective bridge between the studio and the field, or between the Professional Disc™ media and the SxS memory card. We are focused on enhancing the total XDCAM workflow.”
Sony is also introducing a News Production System (XDNEWS) for delivering advanced XDCAM based news production capabilities suitable for small to mid-scale broadcasters, as well as a powerful archiving system called XDCAM archive.
A new version of the XDCAM Professional Disc will be a quad (four) layer, single-sided version, with a 128 GB capacity. The new disc is ideal for long-form recording and archiving, and users can store more than four hours of XDCAM HD422 50Mbps content.
A new XDCAM drive is planned to be compatible with the four-layer disc, with faster transfer and write speeds as a result of dual optics on one head.
Sony is also developing workflow solutions that take advantage of each type of XDCAM tapeless media – the optical Professional Disc and the solid-state SxS memory card. The XDCAM Station hybrid media recorder will feature internal storage, a Professional Disc drive, SxS memory card slots and a VTR-like control panel.
The XDCAM Station will be the core of XDCAM workflows in networked environments. Beyond providing an effective bridge solution between XDCAM optical media and SxS memory card media, it also enables multi-task and multi-access capabilities and can enhance the functionality and the performance of network. Additionally, NLE interoperability is improved with direct access and frame chase editing, and network system interoperability is also improved through use of standard interfaces and protocols.
Another unique feature of the XDCAM workflow is metadata. Last year, Sony announced an adapter for Wi-fi capabilities, to connect mobile devices and XDCAM camcorders, enabling users to register metadata on-site. This function facilitates auto ingest at broadcast stations as well as easy search and preview of related data (shooting date, time, place, notes etc.) and proxy AV data when archived. This XDCAM metadata workflow technology is named “XM Pilot”.
A file management system, usually operated under SAN storage system, is bundled to XDNEWS’ NAS storage system, offering advanced network performance on a common PC platform. In addition, new playout server applications will provide reliability for securing important playout operation.
These expanded configurations are an affordable solution for small to mid scale broadcasters, for example, interconnection with NRCS, computer graphic and archive systems.
Sony is also introducing an Archive Management System, which will provide functionalities such as “Offline Shelf Archive Management with Proxy Preview” as a turnkey solution. The XDCAM Archive system can connect to external systems as well as 3rd party systems via Web Service base interface.
At NAB 2010, Sony is also showcasing connectivity to the XDNEWS system and third-party NLEs. The XDCAM Archive system is planned for release in July.
